It all started back in March. I was particularly upset about how the combination of the pouring rain & frigid cold had stopped me from scooting to my favorite bar (appropriately titled "Montana" on Capitol Hill) to meet up with some out-of-towner friends for a cocktail. Little did I know... it was fate that kept me from Ivy (my scooter is named Ivy), for this moment never would have occured, & my dreams of living an Aloha-Summer never fulfilled had it been a clear night in the Emerald City.
I was riding home in my Uber cab after a long night of Apple Juice & yogurt (read: whiskey & pickle juice) and my cab driver - Tariq - was listening to Hawaiian music as we cruised through Capitol Hill and toward my homeland of South Lake Union. Clearly sober, I asked Tariq:
"Hey man - are you from Hawaii??"
"Nah dude, I'm from Tunisia, but I've always wanted to go there," he replied.
"What about Hawaiian music do you like?" I asked.
"Just that Aloha spirit. It sounds so fun. How can you NOT like it?" Said Tariq.
I nodded. He was right. How can you be having a bad time while listening to Hawaiian music? Or wearing Hawaiian shirts? So I soberly tweeted my thought:
I've decided that my Summer 2013 will be "Hawaiian Shirt" themed. I'm going to look so awesome.

Little did I know (or remember) that the very next day I would read this and feel compelled to actually DO it. I mean, I have to held accountable for my own Twitter, right?
Thus, #hawaiianshirtsummer was born.
I get asked "How many Hawaiian shirts do you have??" almost everyday (the answer is 27, formerly 28 but I gave one to my dad, details later), so I decided I should countdown my Top 10 Favorites of #HawaiianShirtSummer for these final days of #hawaiianshirtsummer. It's been a fun run, boys. But all good things must come to an end, and I'm tired of paying for dry-cleaning.
10.) Palm Trees & Water by Old Navy (yes, OLD NAVY got aloha'd this year).
This is Stacey. She is a flight attendant for a major airline who had an extended layover in Seattle. I was on my weekly grocery run to Pike Place Market when she approached me & asked if she could get a picture of my helmet. "SUUUURRRE," I thought. "You're just interested in my shirt."
But she found me on FB later and shared the picture for proper #hawaiianshirtsummer documentaion. Cheers, Stacey!
Come back tomorrow for Hawaiian Shirt #9!
