The Seattle Mariners History books are being updated as we speak.
"King" Felix Hernandez (his teammates call him "Fifi", but you can still call him The King) has accomplished what only 22 other pitchers in the history of baseball have done: throw a perfect game. What's a perfect game, you ask? That means 27 batters up, and 27 batters down. A 1-2-3 inning for all 9 innings, meaning NO one reaches base on a walk, hit, or error. Nobody. Nada. Zero.
The King was surverying his kingdom this afternoon, striking out 12 peons Tampa Bay Rays on 113 pitches and vindicating every Mariners fan who watched the Chicago White Sox throw a perfect game against us back in late-spring. (I was present for both games) I laughed, cheered, shouted with Jose (Brooke & Jubal in the Morning) and cried a lot. Another interesting fact: this was the first time that 2 Perfect Games have been thrown in the same stadium and in the same season. Congrats, Felix! I know we only share a birthday (April 8) and a love for baseball: but now I want to marry you so we can share our lives together. Cool? See you this Saturday at the Party in the Pen!
