Where I grew up, 'prom' wasn't a very special thing. Sure, it was a time for everyone to rent a tux, buy a dress, and eat a fancy dinner (but we didn't have 'fancy' restaurants where I grew up, so usually our parents just got together and cooked us steak or something you MIGHT get at a fancy restaurant). But for the most part... it wasn't a big thing. Nobody rented limos (because we couldn't), nobody got hotel rooms (because we definitely couldn't do that), and some guys even wore Levi's or Carhartts instead of tuxedos.
Simply put: we never even considered asking a celebrity to prom. It wasn't even in our stratosphere of possible. But fortunately for some... it is. And thanks to the internet - sometimes they actually say YES.
