When something as horrific as the Sandy Hook shooting happens it is a helpless, sickening feeling. There is nothing that can truly be done. However, we can at least praise and mourn those lost while attempting, and even succeeding, in saving many students caught in the tragedy.
Victoria Soto, Age 27
After hearing the gunshots Victoria quickly ushered her students into a closet and gave her life shielding the children from gunfire.
Mary Sherlach, Age 56
Mary was a school psychologist and one year away from retirement. In an effort to stop the gunman Mary gave her life confronting him.
Dawn Hochsprung, Age 47
Dawn was the school principal, and like Mary Scherlach died confronting the gunman after the first shots were fired.
Anne Marie Murphy, Age 52
Anne was a special education teacher. "She died doing what she loved," her mother said after she was found by first responders shielding a group of students from gunfire.
These, along with the students taken, are the names we should remember.
